Family Fun Night!
On January 24th, 2019, over 200 students, families, teachers, and volunteers filled Lyle Elementary School for a fun-filled evening of exploration, innovation, and problem-solving.
This was Lyle’s Second Annual Family STEM Night, and to say it was successful would be an understatement. There were so many families lining up prior to our doors opening, they decided to start the event 15 minutes early! Students worked alongside their family members and teachers building, creating and collaborating at seven different activity stations. Stations included designing, constructing, and operating a marble maze, balloon-power car building and racing, paper airplane design, and engineering with popsicle stick configurations just to name a few.
The success of this evening reinforces the importance of creating experiences where curiosity, creativity and problem solving is highlighted for students. It also helps build partnerships between home and school and encourages community involvement. It took the hard work and dedication from a large number of staff and volunteers, and because of their time and planning, this event was a huge hit. Lyle Family STEM Night was so successful, plans to expand this event for next year is already in the works. More space and activity stations will certainly be added, and in the true spirit of sport, more challenging activities will be developed.
